![]() In our world, if something does not have an immediate impact on your everyday life, you are unlikely to think about it. People are excluded in life if they are not "able-bodied." It's not just persons born with birth defects, but also the aged, the sick, and so on. How a person lives in a body that confines them, and how society fails many individuals without even thinking about it. Chloé has been let down and humiliated by men many times in her life. This memoir was challenging to write since there is a lot of anger within. Then, after becoming a mother unexpectedly, something in her alters, and Jones embarks on a trip around the world, reclaiming the spaces she'd been denied, and herself. She avoided this reality by succeeding intellectually and withdrawing to "the neutral area in her thoughts" until it passed. Yet there is also the anguish of being judged and pitied for her appearance, of being discarded as "less than." Her entire life, her perception of the world has been shaped by how she has been viewed-or not seen.
